“It certainly wasn’t expected”, said LeatherWest Director Tim Black Arrow. “We had no warning this was coming. We received a e-mail from the organiser in Amsterdam and we were taken a-back!”.
Now three years old, LeatherWest has grown from an idea, a concept, to a fully constituted non-profit Community Interest Company, where the profits and assets are put to use for the public good.
The nomination can be taken as recognition by the European Leather Community for the ground breaking work LeatherWest has achieved in helping to build and support the local leather community. It means that the West and its leathermen are certainly getting noticed.
While a panel of judges was assembled to make the shortlist of nominees. It will be the leather public that votes for the candidates and ultimately chooses the winner.
“Being a pan European award,” says Tim, “means we are in a bit of a Eurovision situation here. We’re up against nominees from other countries. Unlike Eurovision of late, we’ve got a realistic chance of winning and bringing the European award back to the UK. Wouldn’t that be something!?”.
LeatherWest finds itself in the running for Best Organisation of the year with GEARED (Dublin, Ireland), CALM (Club of Amsterdam Leather Men, Netherlands), Leather Friends Italia (Italy), SLM (Copenhagen, Denmark).
