When BLUF comes to Bristol, there’s always an eager anticipation, writes Chris Malford. This weekend’s event won’t be any different, he says.

This weekend sees the leather uniform crowd of BLUF men descend on Bristol for its sixth event in the city.

LeatherWest was there at the very first BLUF@Bristol in the winter of 2011 and it’s a testament to the organisers, local leathermen in the region and increasing numbers of members travelling to the city that the events since that memorable first event have gone from “strength to strength”, to quote BLUF’s webmaster (Nigel).

BLUF comes to Bristol for its sixth edition at the end of March.

Black Arrow (Tim) one of the organisers says that “Each BLUF meeting in Bristol has a different feel. Never two are exactly the same. This time we have a lot of first timers travelling into Bristol from London and Brighton.”

BLUF say they seen an increasing trend of the fully-clad leather crowd visiting from Birmingham and the West Midlands coming into Bristol. “BLUF Bristol’s reputation is starting to pull in the Midlands guys,” observed one BLUF member at the last event.

Yet again, the international feel continues this weekend with a leatherman from Amsterdam being in town curious to see the leathermen of the west. We all like a Dutchman in his leathers! Past events have seen guys from Spain and Belgium and even Australia.

The Den promises wall-to-wall leather for BLUF #6

An added feature this Saturday will be the presence of a ‘bootshiner’ on duty to ensure the BLUF men’s boots are up to the exacting standards expected of them. This is sure to excite more then a few. There’s always something arousing about seeing a pair of tall big black boots being polished and buffed by an eager ‘bootblacker’.

Once again, BLUF Bristol has hired exclusive use of The Den right through to 3am - for BLUF members only and their registered who meet the dresscode. Unique for the BLUF world, Bristol is the only event where BLUF members are guaranteed exclusive use of a venue all night long. “The bar will be a sea of Muir caps,” says BLUF’s Bristol Uniform (Mark), “..the dresscode is tightly enforced and remains so all night. Just what the fully clad leather uniform crowd should expect”.

Numbers are limited due to capacity restrictions and to ensure the bar doesn’t get ‘over filled’ and remains true to the roots and basis of the BLUF club - Breeches and Leather Uniforms.

The anticipation of the prospect of ‘BLUF in town’ is evident from postings on Facebook and tweets we’ve seen. And from those who can’t make it to the event? You definitely get the sense that guys know they are missing out on of the best leather nights out you can get in the country. As Leatherati, one of the leading Gay Leather websites based in the US, said of BLUF Bristol:wall-to-wall bar bursting fest of leathermen in the finest Tom of Finland tradition.

As always, LeatherWest will be attending to catch up with familiar faces and newcomers alike. And there should extra things to celebrate. This will be the first full day where Marriage For All is now the law - will there be a proposal for a leather union? - as well as Bristol being recognised as a BLUF City, just one of six in the world, with the launch of BLUF Local.

We’ll be there, booted and leather suited.

Leather up! Boot Up!! Get there!!!

Want to join the men at the BLUF?

Not a member? BLUF Bristol tell us that people are welcome to join. Advice on the entry dresscode requirements can be found at the BLUF website. “If you’ve got the gear, it takes just two minutes to sign up”, says BLUF@Bristol’s Black Arrow. Alternatively e-mail to ask for advice. If you have the gear, what’s stopping you? Not much. Except, you’ll miss out on a great night in the company of friendly social guys in their leather finest - you know, guys just like you.
