LeatherWest expands it’s Tom of Finland range, launching a new exclusive product available to readers, supporters, leathermen and their friends, reports Sam Benger.

Following the release of the limited edition of the Tom of Finland stamps by Finland Post and the Tom of Finland Foundation, LeatherWest thought that the historic release of the stamps needed….. a something little extra.

The answer: display the stamps in specially cut mounts ready for framing.

In line with the Company’s belief in “support local business where you can”, LeatherWest sourced a company in Somerset. Discussions and a visit later resulted in the ‘stamps in mounts’.

Describing the new ‘Tom stamps’ product as a “high quality item”, LeatherWest’s commercial director SBerg says “We’re really pleased with the mounts. Working with a superb local company we’ve come up with something which you will not find anywhere else. The mounts are last cut to fit the stamps sheet precisely; bevel cut as you’d expect for a high quality item. The mounts are from acid free card, meaning that the mount will not yellow with age or damage the face of the stamps”.

It’s clear when seeing the stamps in their mounts that they will not disappoint. Professionally put together, even down to the choice of a ‘fixer’ (using a industry favoured masking tape that doesn’t dry out neither will it mark the stamp sheet), the whole item will be delivered in a protective re-sealable cellophane pouch to ensure a pristine present, even ready for framing.

Available to the great leather public at this month’s Bristol Leather Weekend, SBerg reports that the mounts “created a lot of interest and an ‘encouraging’ first day sales. On-line sales are going really well, with orders already taken from the States.”

The ‘Stamps in Mounts’ expand LeatherWest’s shop Tom of Finland range, with the original ‘Tom Stamps’ still available. More ‘Tom’ products are expected to be announced in the next few weeks in time of the annual Christmas shopping season.

I’m certainly getting a few for some friends who need a more than the usual present. The mounted stamps are certainly a one-off, unable-to-get-anywhere-else, bespoke item.
