Leathermen march in Bristol Pride, in the first coordinated leather presence, reports Sam Benger.

Billed as “Leather on Parade” local leathermen will be joining with their leather brothers from further afield for a dedicated leather contingent Bristol Pride’s Parade. Leather flags and banners will be seen flying proudly by Bristol and the West this summer. This year’s theme is #FreedomToWearLeather.

Gaining a reputation for doing ‘new’ and ‘innovate’, LeatherWest announced its intention several months ago to have a dedicated leather contingent in this year’s annual parade.

“It wasn’t certain what the response from local leathermen would be,” said LeatherWest’s Black Arrow (Tim). However, the response has been impressive, he says, adding, “we decided to go for it. Leather’s not had an organised presence before. Local leathermen definately thought it was long overdue.”

The parade with weave its way through Bristol city centre.

As there’s been indications over the last three years of a growing leather community - a higher profile, more events. It’s a testament to tireless hard work of the volunteers of LeatherWest that Leather has finally arrived at Bristol Pride, which by the way, has been voted as “2nd best in the UK” after London.

The parade sets off from Queen’s Square from 11am (and if you know Bristol, I’m not making it up!). It’s advised to start gathering from 11am at the latest, to get organised. Watch out for leather flags flying as a marker! For more information contact/e-mail [email protected]

So, the call is out for leathermen in the West and their friends to come along. Wearing leather is strongly encouraged for this event. However, being a public place, bare butts not allowed!

Click on the thumbs up to tell people you’re going to be on parade!.

Already numbers are building: tweets and Facebook postings, e-mails and messages from guys saying they’ll be coming along as well on the event page on Facebook. Check out the events pages from LeatherWest and click to say you’re coming (in some leather of course!).

A week to go and the weather is forecast is to be a comfortable 21c, not too warm, not too cold, for leather wearing men.

Leather men arriving at Bristol Pride are fully welcome and almost certainly making their presence felt in 2014 - come along and make it a success! LeatherWest has a supply of banners and leather pride flags to pack a real visual punch.
