LeatherWest reporter, ‘Black Arrow’ Tim reports Bournemouth was once again echoing to the sound of leather men . To the sound of creaking leather and stomping boots as UNION returned to Bournemouth, the emerging leather hub on the coast of South West England.

UNION Leather nights designed for all the tribes of leather to come together: BLUF, bikers, street and urban.

The call had gone for leather men in Bournemouth, Poole, Dorset and the Coast to assemble and leather up for Independence Day in July. After a trial run for the first UNION in March, (which witnessed a bar bursting with leather men) the demand was clear for local leather men: “We want more, we want it now!”.

For its second visit, UNION (the Leather man’s social) visited Club 2930 on The Triangle. Again Bournemouth defy’s peoples’ perceptions: early in the evening, leather men of all tribes were witnessed fully geared-up making their way through the town centre for pre-drinks at G Bar. Clearly the word was out and leather men were organising themselves for a night out.

In the 2930 Club, within an hour, volunteers on the door had virtually ticked-off the whole door list of pre-bought tickets. LeatherWest’s UNION had secured exclusive use of the downstairs bar of the club. By ‘half ten’, the bar was buzzing and the exclusivity of the venue meant that guys were relaxed and enjoying the atmosphere of a horny gathering of leather.

And what an impressive gathering! All the leather tribes were well represented. Leather skins in pairs arriving amongst the revered full leather uniform look of BLUF men, as well as the more relaxed (and somewhat creative) Urban Leather look, mixing denim and leather into some full-on horny presence, leather cops (one local man sporting a genuine US cop shirt - how that was ripped of his back I don’t know).

A number of guys opted for sexy chest harnesses, shorts or jeans, and kilts seem to be a really good solution to the heat of a summer’s leather gathering - a great choice for a summer’s evening. Along with other guys in classic leather men’s uniform, the venue rapidly became a hot mix of leather, flesh and men!

The call to attend was responded to with great enthusiasm: men from Bournemouth, Poole, across Dorset to Hampshire, Southampton and Salisbury and it was a great pleasure to welcome Master Nigel [BLUF #789] for journeying down from his home territory in Bristol to join us. He wasn’t disappointed! Thank you for your support!

There was a time it was said “You can’t hold a leather event in the height of Summer”. Get the leather gear correct, make sure the temperature of the venue is cooled, the beers chilled and things just slot into place. They did that night!

It’s becoming very apparent that the Bournemouth leather crowd are enjoying UNION - guys are saying ‘it’s great to have a new event to attend’. Leather men’s appetite has certainly been whetted for the future events LeatherWest is planning.

The first ever organised presence of leathermen in the Bourne Free parade (Bournemouth’s Pride festival) takes place just under a week away - and leather men are forming a squad for the parade. The banner and flags are ready, the men are ready too!

There’s a double whammy of UNION Bournemouth III in September. Before that, during the afternoon, LeatherWest’s Leather Market on the same day - 26th September. There is definitely a building-up of a real leather presence in this great south west coast town.

If you haven’t joined us yet - what are you waiting for? Why not take a weekend break in late September and take in two events in one weekend? Not only will you benefit from day and night leather events, the Leather Market is a great opportunity to snag a bargain and also gives you a great chance to sell any surplus leather gear. You’ll be able to catch up on all the latest news on UK Leather Pride that take place in Bristol in early November. Plus, you get to meet a terrific crowd of leather men by the sea.

The leather men of Bournemouth and surrounds are certainly making things happen for the men’s gay leather community. You have to come, witness and be a part of it!
