Tom of Finland’s comic hero KAKE, returns to the bookshelves.

We report on a rare chance to see and own the complete adventures of our leather hero.

Between 1968 and 1986, Tom of Finland published no less than twenty-six adventures of Kake in a twenty page comic magazine format.

These originals have been out-of-print for many years. The few available for sale have an avid following with the original comics, now selling for a hefty price on auction and second hand book sites.

However, along comes Taschen, a German publisher based in Cologne, with the Complete Kake Comics by Tom. This is only the second time all the adventures of our leather hero KAKE have been assembled into one volume. The first edition printed in 2008, sold out quickly and immediately became a sought after item for fans and collectors alike.

KAKE was the favourite character of Tom he created. Pronounced ‘cake’ - it is the Finnish equivalent of the English “butch”, he is always so horny. And he ends up having sex almost anywhere with almost anyone - and usually does! In and out of his biker gear, KAKE is the star stud.

The collection includes such infamous episodes such as “The Intruder” (1968). KAKE in his leather bike gear, breaks into a young man’s bedroom and seduces the man into a quiver, only to be caught by his dad. We will leave you to guess the rest!

Then there is episode #22 “Highway Patrol”, where our hero is ‘jacked’ by two Californian looking Police Patrol Officers, who have far more on their mind than a trivial speeding misdemeanor. But then, it’s an excuse for far greater things they have in mind. Obvious that KAKE is turned on by these two horny patrolmen, they give him enough to last him - well, for a day or two maybe!

Or, does “Pleasure Park”, episode #20 do it for you? Again, poor old KAKE, seems to get himself into a lot of mischief among the attractions and rides at the park in this 1970’s adventure. Getting hot and sweaty behind the bushes when he takes a ‘stroll in the park’ …well, what do you expect if you will go after opening hours when its getting dark!? Great for you outdoor enthusiasts out there.

It is said that ‘Tom’ lived out many of his most personal fantasies through KAKE and certainly Tom’s hero became the leatherman’s hero when the series started being published in the 1970’s, heavily influencing the ‘clone’ look that became so evident during the time. Think ‘Village People’ and look back at Tom’s characters in the collection, you will see the influence and inspiration.

This new edition comes in at a hefty 702 pages and also being a hardback will be a very sought after item. That’s over 700 pages of leather, muscles, lust, power and unstoppable male urges.

You’ll find Cops, Bikers, Lumberjacks, Squaddies, Army Cadets, Cowboys, gun touting bad men and Canadian Mountees, in all sorts of everyday situations we all connect with: the roadside, funfairs, on a train, petrol stations, ‘rest-stops’, at the beach, in the park, having a beer at the bar; all ending in exhausting, exploding relief - and always with a big wide open smile.

According to Greg Ennis, an established eBay dealer in all works gay and erotica, specialising in BDSM, Gay Leather and Tom of Finland articles, the book is a “good buy and an investment”.

“Taschen tends to release a ‘Tom’ product every couple of years. Usually in a specific theme or format not done before. On this occasion, they’re reprinting the very successful 1st edition of the Complete Kake Comics. Priced then under twenty pounds, it is now selling for many times more through second hand and specialist sites.”

Greg adds that this edition will have more value: “This time the book will be in a hardback format [previously softback]. It will certainly sell for many more times its original value within a couple of years. I would certainly recommend to any of your readers to purchase this book, if just for the hours upon hours of enjoyment the collected series will give you for many, many years to come.”
